While large-scale producers have access to the latest agricultural technologies, small and medium-sized farmers (SMFs) often lack access to the digital tools they need to thrive. PHITO is working to change that—empowering SMFs and helping to make food production future-proof.
To do so, the EU-funded Horizon project, led by Wageningen University and supported by 17 partners across Europe, is developing a farmer-centered app that makes digital innovation accessible to all.
PHITO provides farmers with personalized, location-specific, and actionable farming advice, enabling them to adopt sustainable, climate-smart practices while staying competitive. Through its community feature the app fosters collaboration connecting farmers, consumers, and other stakeholders, strengthening local knowledge and building strong communities. Aligned with the EU’s “Farm to Fork” strategy, PHITO aims to contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and environmentally conscious agricultural sector.
As the first prototype enters testing in early 2025, it’s exciting to see the app in the hands of farmers and watch it begin to make a real difference. We’re proud to be part of this ambitious project and to contribute to its success. Through carefully crafted communication strategies, we’re ensuring PHITO reaches the right audience—sparking curiosity and driving the positive change the agricultural sector needs.
As knowledge dissemination project partners and work package leaders, we ensure PHITO’s impact extends beyond the project itself by developing strategies and materials that effectively communicate its vision and drive positive change in the agricultural sector.
Together with Cambisol we are co-producing an agricultural podcast and a little documentary series about the project’s journey to bring agricultural innovation closer to the public and highlight the project’s real-world impact.
The PHITO Van is one of our most unique communication tools yet. This fully converted vehicle serves as a mobile headquarters, podcast studio, and local meeting space—bringing PHITO directly to the field. With its eye-catching design, it’s a natural conversation starter and a powerful ambassador for the project. Many of our communication strategies revolve around the van, using it to spark curiosity, foster dialogue, and raise awareness about sustainable farming.
