Workshops and Training

In 2024, we designed and facilitated a science communication workshop for the Young Professionals in Soil Sciences at the Thünen Institute in Brunswick. During this four-hour session, together, we explored the many ways early-career scientists can share their research with the world.

The workshop’s goal was to highlight the diverse opportunities within science communication. From podcasts and social media to creative illustrations and pop science articles, there are countless ways to connect with various audiences and bring science to life. And while it may take time and practice to figure out what works, being a science communicator is also fun and very rewarding.

The workshop started with background information on science communication, then we got into how to get started with science communication and finished off with practical tips and tricks. Plenty of concrete examples from our own work, inspiring group discussions with the participants and hands-on activities made for a fun and interactive workshop where new ideas flourished.

To get participants started on their own communication journey, we encouraged them to develop personal communication strategies and goals. Seeing their enthusiasm and creativity was truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see how they will use their voices to share their soil science knowledge with the world.
