How Long Does an Oak Tree Live?

By Alerce Environmental

2021

An oak tree goes through 3 main stages of life that take roughly the equal amount of time;

1. GROWING

2. RESTING

3. DYING

If an oak tree grows in its natural habitat of grasslands or open-canopy forests, the tree’s crown reaches a healthy shape of broccoli.

On average an oak tree grows for 300 years.

1. Growing

Although oaks 'rest', they explore the optimal balance and respond to the environmental changes.

In these years, the oak tree reaches its optimal dimensions.

2. Resting

When oak trees die they are an essential part of the local ecosystem.  They provide nutrients and shelter for many organisms. Roughly for another 300 years.

3. Dying

Oaks are one of Europe's longest living trees. They grow for 300 years, they rest for 300 years, and they die for another 300 years.

So how long does an oak tree live?
